Electric Atmosphere at 19th Annual Antioch Run for Freedom:
Event Garners More Than 1500 Registrants

The atmosphere at the 19th annual Antioch Run for Freedom was electric when more than 1500 registrants from around the country signed up to participate in the 19th annual State Bank of the Lakes sponsored Antioch Run for Freedom -- 5k Run/Walk held July 4th. With near perfect weather conditions, 1436 runners and walkers crossed the finish-line making this year's event one of the largest ever.

Congratulations go out to first place winner, 18-year-old Aaron Spivey of Spring Grove, Illinois who finished the race in 16 minutes, 37 seconds setting a 5 minute, 21 second mile pace. Second place, with a time of 16:57 went to Tim Hamilton, 27, of Grayslake, Illinois and third place honors went to Xavier Suarez, 20, of Gurnee, Illinois, with a time of 17:06. Congratulations also are extended to the first place female finisher, Jodie Meier, 36, of Pleasant Prairie, WI, with a time of 18:39.

Participants arrived early to pick up race packets and prepare themselves for the race which wound its way through the streets of Antioch. Although the "start" began at 8 a.m., it took nearly 3 minutes for all of the runners and walkers to officially cross the electronically triggered start line. Once on the course, they were greeted by well-wishers and observers who gathered along the entire route to cheer on the participants.

With the assistance of Antioch's Office of Parks and Recreation, police, fire, emergency management services personnel as well as numerous State Bank of the Lakes employee volunteers, the 19th annual Antioch Run for Freedom exemplified the meaning of teamwork and joie de vivre that has followed this event since its inception.
